But if you’re thinking about (and we know you’re not, but if you are) importing a Leaf —Nissan’s all-electric zero-emission car — you should stop thinking right now. Nissan Middle East strongly recommends customers not to purchase the Leaf through any unauthorised channels for various reasons, including, “some specifications may not meet local regulations in this country, such as homologation and safety requirements”.
The warning adds that “a charging network needs to be organised across the country to charge under appropriate and safety conditions. The charging system needs to be prepared to charge batteries at home or office under appropriate and safety conditions to meet Nissan Leaf charging standard.” And worst of all, you aren’t going to have a warranty.
However, don’t worry, because Nissan Middle East is actually mulling over the idea of officially offering the Leaf to UAE and GCC customers, with after-sales service and support.
It would make the Leaf the first and only all-electric vehicle available on the market."
