Electric car charging now possible on Irish Ferries

"Irish Ferries and ESB ecars have introduced onboard charge points on the Dublin-Holyhead and Rosslare-Cherbourg/Roscoff routes, making electric and hybrid car travel to Britain and France possible.

ESB ecars is committed to having 30 fast-charge points installed by the end of 2011, as well as 1,500 public charge points available across Ireland and 2,000 home charge units installed (dependent on e-car sales).

Now on the Ulysses and Oscar Wilde Irish Ferries, there is a dedicated free electric car-charging area, which means cars are charged by the time they reach their destination.

"As part of the rollout of electric car charge points, this new development of onboard charging extends the infrastructure to enable electric-car drivers to travel to foreign destinations. The availability of charge points in a wide variety of convenient locations will help to further promote the adoption of electric cars in Ireland,” said Paul Mulvaney, managing director, ESB ecars.
