Mitsubishi i Achieves Better EPA Rating Than Nissan LEAF

"The Nissan LEAF has been cleaning up in the awards department, but it seems as though the Mitsubishi i, has a slight edge over the zero-emissions car when it comes to its Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rating.

Mitsubishi recently announced the EPA rating for its Mitsubishi i electric-car. The Mitsubishi i has been rated to deliver the best-in-segment ‘fuel’ efficiency as determined by EPA in the areas of both mile-per-gallon equivalency and driving range.

The electric-powered Mitsubishi i got an EPA-rated 126 MPGe in city driving and approximately 99 MPGe for highway driving. The EPA also rated the vehicle’s LA4 driving cycle range at 98 miles.

The vehicle’s competitors, the Chevy Volt and Nissan LEAF aren’t far behind with their EPA numbers. The Volt received a 95 MPGe for city driving and 90 MPGe for highway driving, when running on battery power solely. The all-electric Nissan LEAF got an EPA rating of 106 MPGe for city driving and 92 MPGe for highway driving.

“We feel that with the combination of capability, affordability, and high level of efficiency offered by the 2012 Mitsubishi i will prove very appealing to consumers considering EV transportation,” said Yoichi Yokozawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors North America.

The ticket price of the Mitsubishi i starts $27,990 for the base ES model before applying the $7,500 federal tax credit."
