"On top of being the 2011 World Car of the Year, the Nissan LEAF is sslling like nobody’s business. The vehicle’s sales had a rather slow start, and some naysayers even thought the LEAF would meet its demise. Fortunately, Nissan has been able to turn things aroun.
The LEAF is currently available in only seven U.S. states, but it has already sold over 4,000 units in the past 8 months. This figure is due to supply, not demand.
Once Nissan ramps up production, approximately 150,000 LEAF units are expected to be produced per year. Some have suggested that the Nissan LEAF could become more omnipresent than the Prius once production is in full swing.
The LEAF currently is available in California, Hawaii, Arizona, Tennessee, Texas, Oregon and Washington. The vehicle will launch in additional markets launching later in 2011. As it stands, more than 350,000 people have expressed interest in the Nissan LEAF by signing up for updates over at www.NissanUSA.com.
