"A Nissan LEAF vehicle has been leased to the Medway Maritime Hospital by Beadles Nissan Eltham, in association with Automotive Leasing. The zero-emissions vehicle was leased to the hospital, as a part of a 5-year deal.
The Medway Maritime Hospital (which is a part of Medway NHS Foundation Trust in Kent) treats approximately 400,000 patients a year. The hospital will put the Nissan LEAF vehicle to good use, by using it transport blood specimens, reports, pathology supplies and staff around its various locations.
The LEAF vehicle is perfect for the Medway Hospital as the Trust has its own heat and power plant, which generates electricity and heat simultaneously. This combo plant costs the hospital less than £150 a year to charge the Nissan LEAF.
Steve Wellard, a transport manager at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, had this to say about charging the Nissan LEAF: “Our Nissan Leaf will be charged using the electricity generated from our newly commissioned combined heat and power plant which supplies low carbon electricity to the hospital. It’s a great addition to our transport fleet and is a visible sign that the Trust is serious about reducing emissions from our activities.”
