Nissan & Mitsubishi To Standardize EV Home Charging Systems

"Nissan and Mitsubishi have decided to join forces to develop a standardized system that will allow consumers to use their EV or hybrid vehicle to power appliances in their homes.
Toyota announced that it will begin offering domestic-market Priuses with AC outlets. This decision was made after a report of several hybrid Toyota vehicles were used as a back-up power supply after the March 11 earthquake in Japan.
In July, Mitsubishi announced plans to make an adaptor for its electric vehicle, the i-MiEV. into a home power source. Nissan unveiled its own adaptor for the Nissan LEAF in August. Unfortunately, those two adaptors will not be interchangeable, meaning consumers can’t use the LEAF adaptor for the i-MiEV and vice versa. The Japanese newspaper Yomiuri has reported that Nissan and Mitsubishi are working on a standardized adaptor, but the two manufacturers have yet to officially discussed such plans.
Nissan and Mitsubishi hope that the standardized power-supply systems from EVs would be used across Japan. Currently, there no plans to offer these home-charging systems on vehicles on the U.S. market."
