Fitting a Drive Recorder

"I run these in all my cars, so having had the LEAF for a day it was time to fit one.

This is based on the Blackvue 400v2 Drive Recorder, but they are all powered in a similar manner as so need wiring in the same.

First, attach your drive recorder in the desired position.
I favour behind the rear view mirror, with the lens right in the middle of the screen.
In this position you can't see it when driving.

Then you need to run the cable out of sight, unless you like them trailing across the cabin and using up the 12v socket under the Sat-Nav unit.

In the LEAF I tucked the cable behind the shield for the auto lights/wipers.

Then the cable was pushed up under the leading edge of the headlining and run to the passenger (UK) corner.

Then run round the top of the A post trim, it just pushes in with the lining bouncing back afterwards.

Next you fold the rubber seal back between the door frame and the A post and work the cable into the 3mm gap between the two that runs right down to the dashboard.

This keeps the cable completely hidden from sight, right down to the fuse box in the passenger (UK) side of the dashboard.

It's then a matter of fitting a socket (same as the 12v feed under the Sat-Nav) in the hollow like this:
(camera played up here, pic from a Skoda, but process is the same)
Use a piggy back fuse to plumb it in, I piggybacked off the top fuse, which is 20A for the 12v OEM socket.
Use a 3A fuse.

Pop the cover back on the fusebox and you now have a drive recorder that goes on and off with the ignition.

How it looks from the outside. (I need to straighten it a little bit)

Test run in full HD. (1080)

Happy (safe) motoring."
